Lots of laughs at local radio station
MIDRAND - Midrand Reporter had the opportunity to meet and chat to two stand-up comedians at Mix 93.8 Fm, a Midrand-based radio station.
Nina Hastie and Vittorio Leonardi took time to share laughs with the radio station’s presenter Roxy Blows during a comedy quiz segment.
The comedians, who clearly love what they do, said they could not imagine doing any other job. Hastie, who has been a comedian for the past 10 years, said, “I have been doing all sorts of comedy and treated it as a hobby, but in the past two years I have become a full-time comedian and focus on a political style commentary.”
After 15 years of doing comedy, Leonardi said he could never hold down an office job. “I am not an office type of person, I would frustrate everyone. I am at home doing comedy.”
His comedy mostly touches on relationships, politics and scenarios he observes daily. Leonardi took part in the 1st Annual Laugh Factory Funniest Person in the World competition that took place in USA last year. He took tenth place out of 300 participants from all over the world.
The comedians advised up-coming comedian to make use of open nights in places like Poppys in Melville and The Box in Maboneng Precinct to grow their profiles.
Mix 93.8 Fm presenter Roxy Blows said, “On Fridays, I interview local comedians to give them a platform to talk about themselves and connect with the public.”
Blows stressed that it is important for South Africans to support local talent.
Comedy lovers can catch Leornadi on 25, 27 and 28 March at Monte Casino. Haste will be at the Market Theatre on 20 March for the Inner City Comedy show.
