Blue Valley resident talks music

MIDRAND - Blue Valley resident, Mxolisi Penxa, also known as Just Moxi, is an up-and-coming musician and music producer who dabbles in electronic dance music and RnB.

He describes himself as a classical pianist, who not only mastered the art of playing the piano at a very early age, but was also awarded a bronze medal for the classical piano category at the 2006 World Championships of Performing Arts.

The 25-year-old who is currently studying for a BCom Law degree at Varsity College said he loves music and hoped to have a bright future in it. “I draw inspiration from great global producers such as Calvin Harris and Dr Luke,” he said.

“My sound is a fusion of electric dance music and progressive house music. I have produced two number one hits, a highlight in my growing career.”

Just Moxi said he worked on songs such as Saka Wena by Nadia Nakai and Nigerian superstar Ice Prince. He also produced a single, Azishe, by DotCom under 66 Beats. “I have worked with the likes of Aviator Music, Justin Chalice, Chelz Almae, Leonard Morris and Zara, to name a few,” he added.

Talking about his future plans, he said he was looking forward to releasing more music and performing live. “It is a challenging industry to get your foot into,” he said.

“Established artists, at times, are not too welcoming when an up-and-coming artist tries to break into the field.”
