Movie premiere and fashion show at Olievenhoutbosch Plaza

MIDRAND - A group of young people from Olievenhoutbosch recently put on a fashion show by emerging designers and premiered a zero budget movie called Pay Back Time to the community at Olievenhoutbosch Plaza.

The movie produced by Ghetto Family Productions is about crime in the township and the plot is around a man revenging his step-father’s death at the hands of his biological father. Director and producer, David Baloyi, said the movie was inspired out of a desire to address crime in the community. He explained, “In Olievenhoutbosch crime is bad, we hope the lessons in the movie will help people understand that there is always another path in life other than crime.”

The production company’s marketing director, Alpha Hadebe, said their first movie called Apology After Sin was not their best offering. “Due to a lack of resources we ended up recording the movie with a very cheap handheld video camera, the outcome was not great, but we went back to the drawing board and perfected our next product.”

The group said due to the generosity of professionals in the community their movie was edited for free, and they had access to better equipment.

Deputy chairperson of Olievenhoutbosch youth forum, Dorah Tjobeka said the fashion show was a success as formal, Kasi and traditional wear were modeled. She explained, “As the youth forum we decided to showcase young designers’ work and the designers are Valerie Moremi, Thabiso Molefe and Mokgadi Masole.”

Tjobeka firmly stated that young upcoming designers from Midrand have to be shown and known.

A manager at Olievenhoutbosch Plaza, Kenneth Masha said the centre did not hesitate to give the young people a chance and space to showcase their work. “Olievenhoutbosch is always in the news for nothing but service delivery protests, we want people to know that we have talented young people in Olievenhoutbosch who are also driven by success and pursuing their dreams.”
