Klipfontein youth to develop positive lifestyles as Kliptontein View Field Band launches this weekend
KLIPFONTEIN VIEW – In partnership with the City of Johannesburg, the FBF are set to launch the Kliptontein View Field Band on Saturday, 25 May.
Using the joyful and transformative power of marching bands, the Field Band Foundation (FBF) prepares self-confident and healthy young people to participate constructively in society.
In partnership with the City of Johannesburg, the FBF are set to launch the Kliptontein View Field Band on Saturday, 25 May.
Hosted at the Klipfontein View Multi-Purpose Centre, the initiative is in line with the FBF’s partnership with the City of Johannesburg, Department of Health and Social Development as part of their strategy to combat drug and alcohol abuse.
The foundation is required to establish and grow field bands in the City’s seven regions – providing alternative activities and positive distractions for the youth and encourage them to develop healthy lifestyles and thus avoid being drawn into substance abuse.

Using the arts as a catalyst, the FBF is a dynamic, real-life incubator where members learn to master an art form they have a passion for. Through this, young people learn to innovate creatively together, develop discipline, resolve conflicts, and work collaboratively for a common purpose. This helps to develop values and an identity that respects the rights of others and as well as develop self-confidence.
The forthcoming launch follows previous launches which saw the foundation establish bands in Ivory Park and Cosmo City Orange Farm and Westbury. So far, the foundation has 23 projects in under-resourced areas, and services over 6 000 young people.
The Klipfontein View Field Band launch is open to the public, various stakeholders from the community amongst them parents and guardians of the band members, community leaders and representatives of the City as well as FBF staff members.
The community is in for a thrill as the programme of the day is expected to start with a street parade followed by a formal proceedings at the venue. The audience can expect music, dance and speeches from the Field Band and invited guests, including representatives of the City.
