Zino shares his passion for the music industry

MIDRAND – "Sometimes when you are pushed by passion you just bury your head in the sand and move, when you take your head out the sand and look back you will see all the things you have done," said Orapeleng Nkomazana.

Orapeleng Edwin Nkomazana, better known as Zino The Neck Breaker, continues to share his love for the music business.

Nkomazana developed a love of music during his school years and would often host parties at his hostel featuring music from local artists.

He pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree, specialising in mass communication, marketing and journalism, but the love for music still lingered in his heart.

He worked a number of nine-to-five jobs until 2010 when he had an opportunity to own a club. “Because at that time we had influence, we were able to host big events, even during the world cup [soccer] tournament,” said Nkomazana.

“I remember there were times when we would host seven events in all the clubs around our club including ours, which made it easy for us to host our biggest event called, Rumble in the Jungle, hosting 20 000 people. After that we decided to release an album under House Afrika Records named after the event, which became a huge success.”

With such a track record, he cemented his place in the business of music.

Nkomazana admitted that, to him, it was never about money. “Sometimes when you are pushed by passion you just bury your head in the sand and move, when you take your head out the sand and look back, you will see all the things you have done.”

He said he was looking at starting a local arts school or development centre to help keep the youth busy and off the streets.
