Let’s celebrate International Cat Day

Sunday (8 August) marks International Cat Day, a day dedicated to feline friends. In honouring their cats, cat lovers are advised to protect the wellness of their cats and to be aware of signs when their cats are ill.
A new campaign, #BeCatCurious, has been launched for the purpose of equipping owners with the skills necessary to get their cats into carriers to take them to the vet for regular health check-ups.
Llewellyn Sinclair, Business Unit Manager: Companion Animals and Equine at Zoetis South Africa, a global animal health company, explained that many cat owners found it incredibly difficult and stressful getting cats into a carrier to take to a vet, and hence, only took the animal to the vet when it had a major health issue.
She said she hoped the #BeCatCurious campaign would educate cat owners and equip them with the necessary skills to promote cat wellness, and to get their cats into carriers for regular vet appointments.
“To keep our pets healthy and protected against parasites and other cat-related illnesses, regular visits to the veterinarian and the correct medicines are essential,” said Sinclair. “The goal is for cats to live the best life possible.”
The #BeCatCurious campaign includes educational material and a range of training aids that have been developed by International Cat Care (ICC), in conjunction with leading experts. “Cats are intelligent animals,” said Sinclair. “They respond well to training, which is why we are delighted to support the #BeCatCurious initiative.”
