Local artist’s next two projects will address social ills
MIDRAND — “I am glad that writing and singing have become weapons that I can use to deal with various situations,” says the artist.
In the midst of South Africa’s many social ills, Midrand-based multi-talented artist Musa Makhuvele has plans to address those ills in both his upcoming book and debut album.
As a poet, author, composer, musician and philanthropist, Makhuvele will release his second book Throttled Intentions on March 25, which happens to be the same day as his birthday.
The release of the book coincides with the release of his first music album Switumbani, loosely translated as ‘drums’.
“There are so many social ills that need all of us to address,” Makhuvele said, “I am glad that writing and singing have become weapons that I can use to deal with various situations.”
Makhuvele said his book of poems was about life in general and addressing issues that affected society.
“From one poem to another, the message varies. The list of issues I speak about is endless. Politics, corruption, squalor, and jealousy were among them.”
Moreover, the album will include 10 tracks and a poem taken from his first book Magoza Ya Vutomi (steps of life). The poem explores the issues of gender-based violence and how families respond when faced with such situations.
His other talents include working as a newsreader, researcher, and show host for African Shine FM and Voice of Tembisa FM.
The 45-year-old has also served the ANC Youth League as chairperson and later as its regional executive member in Johannesburg.
