Varsity College Waterfall sparks conversation on leadership

Inspiring talks, heartfelt stories, and lessons defined this year’s Ladies to Legends event—reminding every woman in the room that legends are made, not born.

The IIE Varsity College Waterfall campus hosted its annual Ladies to Legends event under the theme Ladies in Leadership—an evening that left attendees motivated, empowered, and inspired.

Designed as a platform for women to make their voices heard, the initiative encouraged meaningful conversations on issues that matter most to women in leadership today.

Guiding the discussion was TV personality, motivational speaker, and entrepreneur Leandie du Randt, who served as MC for the evening.

She was joined by an impressive panel: Penny Adams, industrial organisational psychologist and human capital leader; Avadhi Ghela, campus head; and Fortunate Ninizana Mashinini, a second-year Bachelor of Commerce student.

Together, the panel explored what it takes to lead in the modern world—touching on themes of building confidence, fostering connections, and taking risks. With 50 women in attendance, the conversation offered practical insights while inspiring participants to step into their own power.

For many, the event was a transformative experience. First-year Bachelor of Education student Alana Tracey Ronne described the atmosphere as magical. “The atmosphere shimmered with possibility, and there was a palpable sense of sisterhood, courage, and inspiration. Every woman in the room contributed to a tapestry woven with stories of resilience and triumph.”

Ronne added that the authenticity of the speakers stood out the most, as they shared not only their successes but also their struggles and lessons along the way. “I learned that strength often emerges during quiet moments of doubt and that failure is merely a stepping stone towards growth.”

The evening also formed part of Varsity College Waterfall’s broader Women’s Month celebrations. As part of the programme, 50 packs of sanitary pads were donated to the campus student volunteer body (VC Cares) for their Sanitary Care Pack Drive. The items were handed over to Grade 7 girls at Chloorkop Primary School on 29 August.

The event closed with a renewed sense of empowerment, reminding attendees that legends are not born overnight—they are made through persistence, self-belief, and the courage to embrace vulnerability alongside victory
