Johannesburg West and South battle to thrilling draw

Johannesburg West and Johannesburg South played an intense U15 match at Midrand High School, with both teams displaying resilience and skill in a thrilling 2-2 draw during district soccer trials.

Following the successful Johannesburg East District Football Championship, Midrand High School once again hosted the district soccer trials, which delivered an exciting clash between Johannesburg West and Johannesburg South.

The match for U15 boys was one of many with scouts on the sidelines watching to select the best players to represent the district at the Gauteng provincial team trials.

Johannesburg West came out strong in the first half, applying early pressure, and their efforts paid off as they took a 2-0 lead.

However, Johannesburg South refused to back down and managed to pull one goal back before halftime, keeping themselves in the game as the first half ended 2–1 in favour of Johannesburg West.

The second half brought even more intensity as Johannesburg South returned, determined to level the score, and they duly did to level the score at 2–2.

Johannesburg West pushed hard to reclaim the lead, but Johannesburg South’s defence stood firm under pressure. In the end, the teams settled for a 2-2 draw.

“The boys played well, and we learned a lot from our opponent. Unfortunately, we conceded two goals, which means we need to learn a lot about defence.”

Johannesburg South coach Lebohang Tsotetsi said he saw a lot of improvement in his team compared to the players he coached last year.
