Young woman aims to inspire through pageantry in Mpumalanga
Miss Pienaar contestant Mpilonhle Tholo says education remains a powerful tool for young people to create change.
Mpilonhle Tholo (18) believes that June 16 is a day to remember the courageous youngsters who fought for their rights and quality education in 1976. She said the commemorative day reminds her about the importance of education.
“In order to bring change, the youth need to use their voices, stay focused on education, and stand up against injustice while building a better future for our communities,” she said.

Tholo is a young woman who, through her dedication to her studies and pageant journey, continues to motivate others to pursue their dreams with confidence. She became a model in 2021, marking the beginning of a path that has helped shape her into a confident and determined young lady.
Her passion for pageantry led her to enter Miss Pienaar, a competition she saw as an opportunity to challenge herself and make a positive impact.

“I entered Miss Pienaar because I wanted to challenge myself, build confidence, and use my voice to inspire others. Pageantry has given me the opportunity to grow as a young woman, while promoting a message that is very important to me – self-acceptance,” she said.
Beyond the pageant stage, Tholo has ambitious career aspirations. She is currently studying for a Bachelor of Administration Degree at the University of Mpumalanga, and hopes to become an economist one day.
“I am passionate about understanding how economies work and how economic decisions affect people’s lives. My goal is to use my knowledge and skills to contribute to economic growth, create opportunities, and help improve the lives of people in my community and country,” she said.

“Believe in yourselves and take that first step. Being scared is normal, but growth comes from stepping outside your comfort zone,” she said.
