R50 million worth drugs seized on the N4

The driver Mr Jeranimo Masoio was arrested on the spot and appeared in the Barberton Magistrate's Court on Monday on charges of illegally importing and dealing with drugs.

MALALANE – Drugs worth R50 million were seized over the weekend when the SAPS’ K9 Unit made a huge bust on the N4 near Kaapmuiden.

A 49-year-old Mozambican man has been arrested in this regard.

“Police acted swiftly after receiving a tip-off about a vehicle from Mozambique which was heading to Gauteng. They then stopped the vehicle and searched it using the sniffing dogs. The heroine was found in small bags hidden in the petrol tank,” explained Sgt Gerald Sedibe.

The driver Mr Jeranimo Masoio was arrested on the spot and appeared in the Barberton Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of illegally importing and dealing with drugs.

The matter was postponed for bail application to March 14.
