University of Mpumalanga scraps application fees

Tertiary hopefuls are urged to stay alert to admission fraudsters as the university moves to a zero-fee application model.

The council of the University of Mpumalanga has approved a no-fee application process for prospective students.

Prospective students and their parents or guardians are therefore advised that no application fee is payable to the university. The decision was announced on Wednesday, October 22.

The university joins a line of South African tertiary institutions that do not require an application fee, such as the University of the Free State and Nelson Mandela University, whereas most institutions still require an application fee for physical applications and are free online.

University warns against admission scams

The university warned the public against fraud committed during application windows.

The public is strongly cautioned against individuals who may try to exploit this decision by requesting payment in exchange for admission, application processing, preferential treatment, waiting-list placement or student accommodation, citing that no person can guarantee admission to the university in exchange for payment.
