Lottery fraudster sentenced
Mashikoane Malaka was found guilty by the Middleburg Magistrate's Court on charges of theft this week.

MIDDLEBURG- This follows after it was alleged that in 2011 Malaka(36) committed fraud by by means of Short Message Service (SMS) notifying victims they had won the lottery in the United Kingdom.
A case was opened the following year and in 2014 the suspect was traced with a warnng statement obtained. The victims were also summoned and testified before the court and the trial commenced after the case was taken for decision.

She was sentenced to six months imprisonment or to pay a fine of R5 000 and another 18 months suspended sentence. She was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
