Municipal jobs scammer remanded in custody
He was arrested on Saturday and appeared in court on Monday.
Police arrested a suspect from Mangweni who has been on the run for the past four years defrauding community members for jobs in the Nkomazi Local Municipality .
It is alleged that Nhlanhla Sboniso Ngomane would make calls pretending to be the Municipal Manager, Dan Ngwenya and demand cash to be deposited either to his bank account or at some supermarkets in exchange for jobs .
The matter dates back to 2015 when a number of victims approached the municipality and cases were opened with police .
Some of the victims would come to the municipality to “ report for work”’ claiming to have paid money. The Hawks and other security agencies were called in but it has been difficult to track down the suspect.
He was remanded in custody and will appear at the Malalane Periodical Court next Wednesday.
