MBOMBELA – Three men will appear at the Carolina Regional Court today following their arrest on May 2 at Badplaas for an alleged robbery of a local foreign-owned shop.
According to police, the trio, Sipho Patrick Mathibela, Tshepo Presley Mashele and Rendani Marshal Ndou were arrested within minutes after they stormed into the shop armed and robbed the owners of goods and cash worth R15 000. They then fled the scene heading to Carolina.

A detective, who was also driving towards the same direction, was alerted about the robbery through the police radio. The suspects’ vehicle, a blue Volkswagen Polo, overtook the detective. He then contacted the nearest police station for back up.

“The police set up a Vehicle Check Point while the suspects’ vehicle approached the point. Cash, as well as cigarette boxes and the victim’s driver’s licence, were recovered. Two firearms with serial numbers filed off were also found and seized. They were remanded in custody for further investigation since May,” said the police. Further investigations revealed that one of the firearms was stolen at Vanderbijlpark in Gauteng. Meanwhile, one of the suspects, Presley Mashele is wanted for a murder case in Bushbuckridge.
