Rangers and Cops win battle in rhino war

Four suspected were apprehended within 24 hours...

SKUKUZA – Four suspected rhino poachers were apprehended within 24 hours.

South African National Parks issued a statement on Thursday (yesterday) in which it said that the arrests were made by their rangers and police officials. The first two arrests were made on Tuesday and after further investigations, two more were arrested early yesterday morning outside the Kruger National Park (KNP).

A semi-automatic 12-bore shotgun, ammunition and other hunting equipment were recovered. Further arrests are expected to take place as investigations continue.

Mr Rey Thakhuli, added that, in a separate incident in the Mahlangeni region of the KNP, rangers made contact with a group of three suspected poachers.

“One of the poachers was fatally wounded and the other two managed to escape under the cover of darkness,” he said.

A .458 rifle, ammunition and poaching equipment were recovered.
