SAPS operation basadi
Female police officials conduct roadblock in celebration on Woman's month.

KABOKWENI – The female officials of the local SAPS recently came together and conducted the Basadi project as part of celebrating Women’s Month. The operation was conducted by Maj Gen Wilson Kekane and station commander Ntombivelile Xhelithole.
Female officials from Kabokweni, Pienaar, KaNyamazane and Masoyi held a roadblock at the four-way stop in Nkohlakalo and conducted a search at Mbonisweni where they arrested a man in possession of copper cables.
Others were found with dagga, non-compliance of the Road Traffic Act. Fines were also issued.
The operation, which is done annually, is to show the power that female police have. According to Capt Shirley Ngomane, this is way of sending a strong message to the people that they are also capable of executing duties that people think are meant for men only.
“We come across different challenges everyday, as people don’t respect what we do. They undermine us when we stop them and others just don’t follow the instructions we give them. By doing this, we want show that if you strike a woman, you strike a rock,” said Ngomane.
The Mpumalanga News reporter experienced the non-compliance of motorists, especially venture and truck drivers.
The operation will continue for Women’s Month. Stations are expected to work together, especially female police as this is their month; conducting roadblocks, tracking down people and families affected in domestic violence and hunting down substance abusers.
