The Nsikazi community, provincial traffic authorities and relatives gathered at the Phola Community Hall on Thursday, September 3, for the memorial service, and Saturday, September 5, for the funeral, to bid Kgaugelo Edwin Moela a final farewell.

Moela had been traffic inspector with the Mpumalanga Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport since 2015.

The 38-year-old officer lost his life in the line of duty on Monday, August 31, after he was struck by a minibus taxi while working to enforce road safety laws on the N4 in Alkmaar.

Those who served alongside Moela remembered him as a professional who carried out his duties with unwavering commitment and integrity.

Premier pays tribute to fallen officer

Mpumalanga Premier Mandla Ndlovu paid tribute to the fallen officer.

“In this difficult period, we stand in solidarity with his family, friends and colleagues, sharing in their grief and honouring his service,” said Ndlovu. “Lala uphumule, Kgaugelo Moela. You played your role with dignity and devotion, and your memory will remain with us always. May your soul rest in eternal peace.”

Family expresses heartfelt gratitude

For the Moela family, the passing of their beloved brother has left a profound void, yet the community’s response has provided comfort.

In an official statement posted by his older brother and member of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature, Desmond Moela, the family expressed their heartfelt appreciation to everyone who reached out to offer strength and condolences.

“In our darkest hours, you have been a light through your prayers, your comforting words, your presence at the memorial services, and your generous acts of kindness,” said Desmond.

“We are truly humbled by the support, love shared, the calls made and the time so many of you sacrificed to stand with us. Your support has carried us through this difficult journey. Speakers said Moela’s dedication to protecting motorists across Mpumalanga remains an enduring testament to his service, and his memory will continue to be honoured by both his family and the law enforcement fraternity he proudly served.
