PIENAAR – Women and children around Pienaar and surrounding areas continue to be victims of rape and sexual abuse.

About four cases of rape had been opened at Pienaar police station since the beginning of September. One of the victims is a 21-year-old woman was allegedly raped by four men who recently knocked at her place after posing as police officials. They allegedly forced her out of the house and took her to the streets where she was repeatedly raped and again took her to some abandoned houses where she was also raped again.

She was later taken to her house.

No arrests had been so far and police have called on anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the culprits to call them.

This newspaper also learns that a six-year-old minor was reportedly raped at a local school’s toilet, a thing which was discovered by her parents when bathing the girl late that day.

It is alleged that the girl only told her parents what had happened after being questioned, she was later taken to the nearest hospital where it was confirmed that she was raped and the case was reported to the police. No one has been arrested on this matter so far!

On another note, Pienaar police are investigating an alleged rape whereby an 11-year old minor was raped and bribed with a R2:00 by a local businessman.

This newspaper also learns that children as young as six years also commit sexual offences. In a recent matter, a journalist from this newspaper found four minors doing push-up exercises at one police station where she learnt that they were punished for masturbating each other in school premises during school hours.

According to police, most victims of rape were raped at night on their way from churches, night vigils and drinking places.

“We urge women and girls to avoid walking at night and avoid hiking, avoid free beers from friends at taverns because they end up being victims of rape. They should avoid short cuts and lonely areas,” said Lt Jabu Ndubane spokesperson of Pienaar police station.

Women and girls are also encouraged to walk with their male friends to avoid being victims of rapes and other criminal activities.

Parents are also urged to look after their girls and ensure of their safety at all times.

About 57 rape cases were reported between July and September 10 at Pienaar police station.

Pienaar police also welcomed the recent life sentence that was posed on Mduduzi Ntibane (32) who raped his victim in 2005.

“He was identified by the victim three years later on the road around Matsulu,” said Lt Jabu Ndubane.

She said Ntibane was arrested and released on bail but never attended court and a warrant of arrest was issued against him.

“He was arrested in Low’s Creek after committing an armed robbery and investigations showed that he was wanted for the rape he committed in 2005 and was sentenced to life imprisonment on August 25,” she said.

“We hope this sentence will serve as a lesson to all would be rapists,” she added.
