MEC pays tribute to teachers for their contribution

Ms Regina Mhaule has indicated that she takes pride in children's education including teachers who are driving this education project forward against all odds.

MBOMBELA – The MEC for the department of education, Ms Reginah Mhaule praised the contribution made by teachers in their every day’s work prior to the National Teachers Awards ceremony held at Ingwenyama Lodge on October 4.

This year’s theme is: “A Call for Teachers.”

“I take this opportunity to join the people of the world in paying tribute and appreciate the outstanding contribution of teacher’s in changing the lives of our people for the better through education. Teachers are and will always remain the backbone of our on-going struggle for people emancipation and socio-economic development.

“As a nation and province, we also take pride in the education of our children and more significantly our teachers who are driving this education project forward against all odds,” she said.

Mhaule added that the day provides a chance to focus public attention on the positive aspects of Education and thus raising the public image of the teaching profession. “It also is a special day to individual and groups of teachers who have the interest of our children and the future of our country at heart,” she said.

She said the day is marked to celebrate esteemed teachers as well as to recognise and promote the excellence of their performance. “We also honour dedicated, creative and effective teachers and schools to encourage best practices in schools,” she said.

The National Teaching Awads is one of the means in which the Mpumalanga Department of Education salutes all teachers for their extraordinary efforts, which is mostly achieved under trying conditions.
