
KANYAMAZANE – A 22-year-old man spent the weekend behind bars following his arrest after being found in possession of two Rhino horns, illegal firearm and 12 rounds of ammunition.
He is expected to appear before the Magistrate’s court in the area on Monday.
The suspect was arrested amid police officers who were on duty on October 10 at 23:00 stopped and searched a suspected vehicle with five occupants who were coming from Mgwenya road. Police found ammunition amid searching one of the suspects and as a result his accomplices fled the scene on foot.
The police’s W/O Andries Skwambane added that a blood stained overall covering the firearm was found hidden in the boot where fresh rhino horns were also found.
“All units were contacted including the Kruger National Parks Board which laid charges of rhino poaching against the suspects.”
Other suspects are still at large.
