The Steval Pumas’ victory has been applauded by MEC for Culture, Sport and Recreation, Ms Sibongile Manana. The MEC congratulated the rugby team for winning the Absa Currie Cup First Division Final against the EP Kings.
She said that the department takes immense pride in the Pumas’ feat of being crowned kings of first division rugby.
“We are delighted by the achievement of the Pumas. The boys played good rugby and they were duly rewarded with the cup. The whole province is pleased with the progress of the Pumas, who have emerged as a force to be reckoned with in recent times and have represented us with distinction this season having won 15 successive matches,” says an excited Manana.
Manana also wished the Pumas the best of luck as they prepare to take on GWK Griquas on the promotion/relegation match for a chance to play in the elite league next season.
“The club must draw inspiration from their successful league campaign as they plot the demise of their opponents in the playoff match. We are confident that the Pumas’ dream to play in the Currie Cup Premier Division will become a reality. To Jimmy Stonehouse and the boys, the whole province will be behind the team,” concluded the MEC.
