A rural school in the area has scooped a top award at the 2013 SA Sport Awards.
This comes amid Daniye Primary School’s nomination in the Developing School Team of the Year category. It earned the nomination at the back of winning two major junior football tournaments – Danone u/12 and Nestlé Milo u/13, which earned it the right to represent South Africa on the international stage. It vied for the award against Stellenzicht Secondary School and Khayelitsha’s u/18 boys hockey side.
The SA Sports Awards were be held on Sunday, November 17 in Sun City, North West.
“We congratulate the school on its nomination,” said culture, sport and recreation MEC, Sibongile Manana, adding that the province is enjoying an annus mirabilis on the arts and sporting fronts.
She said this ahead of the awards.
“The department won the South African Traditional Music Achievement award for best department of arts and culture, the Steval Pumas won the ABSA Currie Cup First Division Cup and promotion to the Absa Currie Cup Premier Division and Brenden Ledwaba and Musa Sukwene are front-runners for the Idols crown. All of these accomplishments indicate that things are happening in the province,” concluded Manana.
