Suspects appear in court for armed robbery

The suspects, Mr Norman Madonsela (30), Sakhi Mhlongo (22), am Chauke (27), Amos Khoza (24) and Ms Sahlulelo Mgununda (32 ) appeared in the Malelane Magistrate Court on November 25.

MALALANE – Four men together with a 32-year-old woman appeared in Malalane Magistrate’s Court in connection with armed robbery and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

The suspects, Mr Norman Madonsela (30), Sakhi Mhlongo (22), am Chauke (27), Amos Khoza (24) and Ms Sahlulelo Mgununda (32 ) appeared in the Malelane Magistrate Court on November 25 on the afore mentioned charges.

The matter was postponed to November 27. They were all remanded in custody.

The accused on November 22 around 10:00 after police received information about an armed robbery at Komatipoort.

Police responded promptly to the message and subsequently spotted a blue Toyota Yaris which fitted the description of the vehicle alleged to have been involved in the robbery on the N4 between Hectorspruit and Malelane.

It is alleged that police tried to stop the vehicle but it didn’t stop until the police fired a gunshot at the vehicle’s tyre when it was approaching the off-ramp to Jeppes Reef.

The suspects were then cornered and arrested.

They were found in possession of two loaded firearms with their serial numbers filled-off an undisclosed amount of cash believed to have been stolen during a robbery which took place at earlier on the day at a sugarcane farm were workers were supposed to be paid.

Police said the firearms were sent for ballistic testing at the Forensic Science Laboratory.
