EDM hosts third sports tourism day
The event also encourages a healthy lifestyle among people.

MBOMBELA – In a bid to promote Ehlanzeni District municipality (EDM) as a tourist destination and also to fast track social cohesion within its residents, the municipality held its successful third annual tourism sports day.
The event which also encourages a healthy lifestyle among people was held at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday and as a result saw about 420 sports enthusiasts participating in sporting activities on the day.
EDM’s member of the mayoral committee, Mr Johan Mavuso told this publication that this year’s event is a clear indication that of how the municipality’s sporting and tourism campaign has grown.
“It is a sign of improvement and shows that the municipality has reached its vision. We also want to continue until such a time that this initiative reaches a level similar to the Comrades Marathon, He added.
He went on to say that the main objective of the event is to create jobs for the youth while promoting a healthy lifestyle.
Meanwhile Wesley Mutai who came in first position for the senior’s 21 km marathon, said that he enjoyed the race and was also a preparation for next week’s marathon that he is expected to compete in.
“I am happy and this race is sort of training for me in preparation for the Common Wealth games which will be taking place next year in Scotland,” said Flavia Seohle who won first prize in the 10 km open race.
Seohle who finished the race in 28 minutes and 51 second indicated that he also came in first position during the South African championships this year.
