Orlando Pirates pays tribute to Nelson Mandela

Players paid their tributes during a meet and greet sesssion with some of the jourlists from different media houses.

Orlando Pirates has joined scores of people around the world in paying tribute to the late statesman and one of the most celebrated icon of the 21st century, Mr Nelson Mandela.

This is what they had to say ahead of their match with Platinum Stars, today: “It is a great loss for the country because we lost an icon, “ said Ndumiso Mabena.

He added that he wouldn’t be where he is if it wasn’t for Madiba.

“He was an icon and a legend I have a lot of respect for him because of the contribution he made. We have lost a father and his death was God’s will.”

Patrick Phungwayo told this publication that the country will miss Mandela and his great deeds.

“I have learned a lot from him including the fact that we should love one another and for an icon like him to pass on is a great loss for the country and the world.”

“We are grateful for the inspiration he gave us as a nation and I would like to send my condolences to the Mandela family,” said Thulasizwe Mbuyane.

He added that Madiba gave a lot of people hope and as an Orlando Pirates player today’s win is going to be dedicated to him.
