HAZYVIEW – A child is presumed to have drowned today after disappearing under the water in a stretch of the Sabie River near Bush Paradise.
Police are still on the scene looking for a body. According to W/O Danie Theron, the current is too strong for police divers to participate in the search. They are currently searching from a raft on the water.
Witnesses say the child was swimming at a bridge when he was pulled in by the current. He was washed down several rapids before disappearing under the water.
Theron says that the search will continue tomorrow if they are not successful today. The helicopter is also standing by to aid in the search, if needed.
