Residents left for days without water

In our previous article, Mpumalanga News had reported that the supply cuts have been ongoing and are only to be restored later in the evening.

THEKWANE NORTH – With a few months left ahead of the 2014 general elections, the prospects of residents promising to vote for the ruling party seems bleak.

This comes after residents were left stranded without water for three days –December 31 until January 2-without any notification of a cut-off.

Speaking to this publication yesterday (January 2), one of the residents, Ms Mavis Nyalunga, said that the ruling party was being unreasonable due to the fact that they expect votes from them, but they don’t deliver any services to the community.

She indicated that they have to use ablutions inside the house and it becomes problematic because no water is being provided which results in many households being a health hazard.

Nyalunga also added that the community does not have a clinic or a school and due to that fact their children have to walk to a nearby community, Pienaar to attend school.

“We have a councillor that we elected, but not much is being done and come elections, they expect us to vote,” she asked.

In our previous article, Mpumalanga News had reported that the supply cuts have been ongoing and are only to be restored later in the evening.

Upon inquiring, residents told this journalist that this had been the norm since they came to live in the area a few years back, with water being cut off in the morning and restored in the evening.

Another resident, Ms Qinile Ngwenya said that considering the fact that it’s the in the Lowveld and it gets hot during this time of the year, they can’t use the toilet and they can’t bath because of lack of water.

Mr Charles Mdhluli, who is ward committee member in the area, said that he had notified his superiors about the issue and that they had indicated that water tankers would be provided to ease the situation.

He added that this problem was caused by a damaged pipe and officials from Sembcorp Silulumanzi were working around the clock to fix the problem.

A group of residents waited in anticipation for the water tankers until some of them left without it arriving and it had not arrived by time of publishing this article.
