Unlike young dogs and puppies who are most often turned in to shelters for behavioral problems (often due to lack of training), most older dogs have lived with families where they were valued, at least for a while – and now they are confused and depressed. “We’re tired of having a dog”, “we can’t pay for the medicine he needs”, “we have a baby now”, “we have a change in ‘lifestyle’, these are the stories shelter and rescue workers hear every day. In other cases, a guardian has died or a couple divorced. Remember, most dogs that come into rescue aren’t there because there’s something wrong with the dog – more likely, there is something wrong with the people they lived with.
“Gracie” is a fox terrier, 3 years old, has been spayed and injections up to date. I picked her up in August 2013 in a township in Sabie. She was pregnant. But she lost all her babies because they were too big. She is now at the sanctuary in Nelspruit, but she really needs to be in her own loving home. She is so compassionate and loving. He needs a very busy home where he can run, play and jump in the dam. He has been neutered and his injections are up to date. Please phone Annelize 084-764-9066 if you can give Tiekie a loving home. He does get along with all kinds of dogs, children and cats. His owners moved, took the other dog with and left him alone. He doesn’t deserve that.
