25 million citizen registered to vote

According to CENSUS, it indicates that the population size of South Africa ranges on 51.8 million in 2011 and only 25.3 million have registered to vote in the next coming election in 2014.

NELSPRUIT – A record 25,3-million South Africans are registered and ready to vote in the May 7, 2014 national and provincial elections following a highly successful final registration weekend which saw 1 259 560 new voters registered.

The record of 25.3 million national registered voters is in regard to both female and male voters and from the age of 18 to 80+. This was issued from registration statistics as at February 12, 2014. A large number of 6 million registered voters in Gauteng was called to be the highest compared to the rest of the provinces. Following KwaZulu-Natal, registered a number of 5.1million voters for the next coming elections. Mpumalanga managed to register 1.9 million voters when Northern Cape registered the lowest number of 599.844 voters since 1994 elections.

Registered parties in South Africa nationally and provincially are 186. Registered provincial parties in Eastern Cape is 3, 2x Eastern Cape, 7x Gauteng, 3x KwaZulu-Natal, 5x Mpumalanga, 1x Northern Cape, 1x Limpopo, 3x North West and 25x Western Cape.

“To be able to vote, you must register as a voter. Once you have registered, your details appear on the voters’ roll, which contains over 20 million names. The voters’ roll helps us plan an election and identify fraud as it tells us how many voters to expect in each voting district.” Statement released by the Independent Electoral Commission.
