NELSPRUIT – Two horrific accidents occurred on Saturday, resulting in the death of four.

A man (23) whose particulars are unknown at this stage, was killed yesterday around 16:30 when a minibus collided with a Mahindra he was a passenger of.

The accident occurred at the R40/Banket Street intersection and the Mahindra was travelling in the direction of Barberton.

However, according to eyewitnesses, the accident was actually caused by the driver of a Volkswagen Fox who had swerved over the road and continuously slammed on the brakes.

The driver of the minibus, in attempt to avoid a collision with the Fox, swerved too and collided with a Mahindra bakkie. The man, who was standing on the back of the bakkie, fell off and another oncoming vehicle drove over him.

He sustained serious injuries and died on his way to hospital. According to Mr Jacques Meiring of Bossie’s Community Justice, the driver of the Fox left the scene of the accident.

He was later spotted at Laerskool Laeveld and told police officials that he had left to avoid his vehicle causing further congestion.

In another accident around 23:15, three people were killed on the road to Kamagugu when a Volkswagen Polo Vivo, travelling in KaNyamazane’s direction, collided head-on with a Volkswagen Golf travelling to Nelspruit.

A young woman and man seated in the Vivo were killed upon impact and their bodies were flung from the vehicle. A third occupant was seriously injured and two escaped with minor injuries and were taken to RobFerreiraHospital.

According to eye witnesses, the Golf had two occupants, one of which was killed and the other fled the scene.
