Shavathon – it’s all the rage
The 11th CANSA Shavathon was held during the weekend and the public could shave or spray their hair to show support.
NELSPRUIT – The 11th CANSA Shavathon was held during the weekend and proved to be a huge success.
Staff and volunteers were kept busy while Lowvelders queued to have their hair shaved or sprayed.
The generous donations went to the organisation and the hair it collected was used to make wigs for cancer patients.
This best-loved annual event supports a very worthy cause – to show solidarity with those affected by cancer.
Losing your hair is a common side-effect and shaving your head has become a symbolic gesture of support for survivors and those undergoing treatment.
Colouring your hair is an option if you’re not brave enough to shave it all off, but whatever the choice, the support is invaluable.
Many heart-warming stories added to the joy of the event.
A cancer survivor with waist-length hair had her ponytail cut off and donated it to make a wig for someone who needed it more than she did.
A mother with an eight-month-old baby looked on with tears pouring down her cheeks as she watched her husband, a cancer survivor, have his hair sprayed.
Laughter and smiles mingled with sadness as people shared stories of bravery and courage.
To the Lowveld CANSA staff and volunteers, thank you for your hard work and enthusiasm. Every ounce of effort made to make this fund-raiser such a huge success is greatly appreciated.
