NELSPRUIT  YesterdayWard Councillor of Daantjie Trust in Pienaar, Mandla Msibi(38), appeared before the Kabokweni Magistrate’s Court facing allegations of inciting public violence.

His appearance came as a result of a probe on the recent spate of violent protests that took place at Pienaar area were community members vandalized shops owned by foreign nationals. The community forcefully removed corrugated irons, broke the doors and looted their shops. This unrest was prompted by the death of a 20-year-old learner, who was fatally shot on February 25 this year. It is alleged that he was shot by a Somalian shop owner who accused him of robbery that took place in his shop. Msibi is accused of being an inciter to this violence as mentioned.

The suspect was released on warning and will appear again on April 24, at the Kabokweni Magistrate’s Court.

“It is very disturbing that a person like Msibi is found being accused of inciting violence instead of bringing peace. Opinion leaders from all walks of life are expected to work together with the police in stabilising the community during public violence,” said the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thulani Ntobela.
