MBOMBELA – 20 years into democracy, the African National Congress believes they are on track in advancing the interest of young people in the province.

Speaking during a media briefing held at the ANC provincial headquarters, the January Che Masilela House last week, the youth league’s provincial chairperson, Mr Desmond Moela, said with the assistance of the provincial government they were able to move mountains and help empower young people.

“For now we are satisfied with the manner in which things are unfolding. We have a good working relationship with the provincial government and together we are able to advance the youths’ agenda.

We will be convening a Provincial Youth Summit, where the provincial government will also form part of this particular programme so that we are able to advance the interest of young people in the province towards economic freedom in our lifetime,” said Moela.

Probed further, Moela told Mpumalanga News there were many youth-oriented developmental programmes on the cards that seek to empower young people in employment and business opportunities.

“With our Imvuselelo campaign, we are going to engage with the youth on their challenges they have raised during 2014 elections. We will focus on how best we can help solve their challenges,” Moela continued.

The league’s secretary, Ms Sasekani Manzini said league’s Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) had taken a resolution to honour the former ANC president and one of the Ancyl founding members, Mr OR Tambo.

Tambo also served as the league’s first secretary.

“During the two months of the Imvuselelo Campaign, which is September and October, we are going to host a number of memorial lectures just in honour of Tambo, who fought and contributed so unselfishly in the fight for liberation,” she outlined.
