Goat abuser appeared in court

His arrest came after a horrific video footage of him beating a goat to death was circulated on social media networks and it landed on the hands of the police and South African Animal Rescue and Advisory Centre (SAARAC).

NKOMAZI- A 26-year-old man recently appeared in the Nkomazi Magistrate Court on allegations of cruelty to animals.

Sipho Makamu’s arrest came after a horrific video footage of him beating a goat to death was circulated on social media networks and it landed on the hands of the police and South African Animal Rescue and Advisory Centre (SAARAC).

The police in Tonga and inspectors from SAARAC instituted an investigation regarding the video and it led them to a house at Mzinti near Malelane yesterday on October 7 where Makamu was arrested.

He had been released on warning and is expected to appear again in court on November 10 November. Investigations in the matter still continue.

“The police management is pleased with the arrest of Makamu and believe that other community members will learn from the consequences of this senseless conduct. As police, we strongly condemn cruelty to animals and we urge that whenever members of the community witness this kind of cruelty, they must report it to the police, SAARAC or Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA),”said Brig Gerald Sedibe.
