Mpumalanga Gospel Music Awards to shake things up

The gospel music industry in the province is about to take an exciting turn and soon it will be on everyone’s lips for the better.

The gospel music industry in the province is about to take an exciting turn and soon it will be on everyone’s lips for the better.

Mpumalanga Gospel Awards (MGA), a first for the province of the rising sun, will see the celebration of legends and newcomers in the industry.

“Our province is rich in so many ways, and among such is gospel music. Many of our artists are celebrated outside the province and that is about to change,” said Nhlanhla Ngwenyama, Project Coordinator for MGA.

One of the categories, Best Gospel Community Radio, recognizes local radio stations and provides the platform for them to shine and showcase their best abilities.

“We have put aside R20 000 for this category, and we encourage the local radio stations to take advantage of it. They are the ones in touch with the local artists and they are more familiar with them than anyone else.

This is our way of encouraging them to play more local content so our artists can also be promoted in the process. Everyone wins,” added Ngwenyama.

Other categories include Best Gospel Song of the Year, Best DVD, Best New Comer, Best AmaZion Skhalanga, to mention but a few.
“We are at an initial stage where people can nominate according to their preferred categories.

They can do that by filling up the form which can be downloaded from our website, www.mpumalangagospelmusicawards.co.za, or email admin@mpumalangagospelmusicawards.co.za.”

All entries will cost R250.00 and must be accompanied by a CD, Biography, Photo, and for the DVD category, a copy of the work must also be produced for approval.

“Our team will then listen to all the nominees sent through for consent. I must also emphasize that we will only be taking quality work, artists that have registered their work through the necessary channels.”

Ngwenyama went on to say that legendary artists such as Derrick Nzimande, Rebecca Malope, Sipho Makhabane and producers such a Percy Madalane, will also be honored on the day.

“We do this to motivate our upcoming artists and to show them that the platform and recognition is there, all they have to do is take the baton and run with it,” he added.

Ngwenyama also reiterated on the fact that they are still open for any kind of sponsorship to make the event a humongous success.

The closing date for nominations is October 15, and the awards will be taking place on December 14.
