Police tempted by a microwave oven

Upon investigations, the stolen microwave oven and a laptop were found in the police reservist's house and he wa s arrested.

EMBALENHLE – A 36-year-old Police Reservist made a brief appearance before the Secunda Magistrate’s Court in connection with possession of suspected stolen property and defeating the ends of justice.

The appearance of the suspect spiralled from an incident in which two suspects were apprehended for an alleged house breaking from which several household items were stolen including a laptop and a microwave oven. Some of the items were recovered by police with the assistance of the community.

It then surfaced that two items a laptop and the microwave oven were still missing.Further scrutiny revealed that the microwave oven was found but it was not the one which was stolen from the complainant.

“Two suspects in the matter were quick to mention to the police that a certain police official took the laptop and also swapped his microwave oven with the one of the complainant,”explained Lt Col Leonard Hlathi.

“The police did not hesitate to follow the information. When they arrived at the house of the reserve constable, they indeed found the two items and arrested him,”he added.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General (Adv) Mark Magadlela said, “As much as we acknowledge the work done by reservists, we will also arrest those who are rotten potatoes in our midst.”
