STEENBOK – It is believed that ghosts usually roam in the middle of the night, or at dawn, but it seems to be a different case for this village in Nkomazi. The community has been plagued with what seems to be ghost stories to some, and reality to those who have apparently had an encounter.
Some residents claim that they have had several encounters with two ghosts lurking around the village at dusk. One woman said the ghost came into her house and offered to pray for her children.
“She wears a brown skirt and a white top. She goes around the houses offering prayers for the family, children in particular. Not all of my kids were home, some are at varsity. She came in and mentioned all of them by names, told me the naughty things they do as well.
I was shocked, I immediately came to my senses and started to pray silently. That’s when she freaked out and started swearing. She told me I’m not ready for the prayer and stormed out. That’s when she also told me she would come back the following day.”
According to neighbours, the woman said to be a ghost, went around the neighbourhood and did the same thing. Upon further investigation, the women found that this ghost was actually from a neighbouring village and had died a long time ago.
“It’s scary when you look at it, we are indeed in the last days – ghosts walking around with humans. I suspect she wanted to possess my children, thank God it didn’t go that far.”
In another incident, a man in the same village was said to have received cash estimated to be R70 000 in a small briefcase, by a woman wearing white clothes. A relative of the man said they still couldn’t believe the ordeal occurred.
“It was during a vigil preparation in our neighbour’s house when a woman wearing white clothes came in and claimed to be lost. She wanted directions to a certain house. It was around 18:00.
We were all too busy and couldn’t help her, she decided to go. That’s when my cousin followed her to offer accommodation as she seemed to have a long way to go,” said the woman known to Mpumalanga News. According to our source, the woman was given accommodation but disappeared during the night.
“My cousin woke up and the woman was not in the room, instead, there was a bag of money, and a Samsung tablet. My cousin got excited, thinking that it was an appreciation for his kind gesture. He blew the money and used the tablet.
The woman returned the following week, I saw her, and I remember her words directly. She said ‘the money you used will do to you what it did to me.’
After that week, things really started falling apart.” According to other sources the man started going crazy, and raped his stepdaughter. However, our source has disputed this claim.
“I really can’t comment on that. What I know about the money is the fact that it remains the same, even when he takes it from the bag and uses it, it remains a fixed amount. I can also tell you that he doesn’t sleep at night. It’s a huge nightmare and we don’t know what to do about it now,” the woman added.
