MBOMBELA – Following the recent sacking of executive mayors in four local municipalities in the province, the DA has pondered in on the matter arguing that this move will have little impact in terms of speeding up the service delivery vehicle.
The four recalled mayors were Cllrs Salome Sithole (Emalahleni Local Municipality), Caroline Morajane (Lekwa Local Municipality ), TinyMthimunye (Dr JS Moroka Local Municipality) and Bafana Ncongwane (Thaba Chweu Local Municipality).
The DA’s Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs’spokesperson,Mr Bosman Grobler said that the sacking
of the mayors will have little impact on the dysfunctional municipalities.
“The DA has for the last few years been advocating for the disbandment of the council in Thaba Chweu. This embattled municipality has been facing numerous service delivery protest with among others billing and revenue collection for municipal services rendered being one of the greatest difficulties,” he said.
“The ANC cannot continue to force inept and uncaring mayors onto our local government institutions. Now is the time for competent and skilled mayors to be appointed.
Replacing one incompetent crony with another will not improve service delivery and will certainly have little impact on the dysfunctional municipalities,” he added.
The ANC provincial secretary, Mr Lucky Ndinisa announced during an hour long media session that the four mayors have been recalled because of lack of sound political and financial management amongst other reasons.
Ndinisa also hinted that this may not be the last reshuffle.
