MBOMBELA – Barely two weeks after a former member of the ANC made headlines and trended on social media following his departure from the ruling party to join the EFF, it has now surfaced that a section of this party’s members view him as a threat to their hopes of attaining high posts after the local government elections next year.
Mpumalanga News has learnt that it is alleged that Mr Tseko Taabe has become a threat to some fighters within the party, especially those who have high hopes to attain high positions if the party fairs well in the coming elections.
It was alleged that Taabe had joined the EFF because he was seeking a high position and with the experience that he had in politics, he might give many fighters a tough time as it was allegedly believed that the NEC of the party would not hesitate to deploy him in a high position.
Mpumalanga News learnt that Taabe was an ANC member for 29 years “before he reached a point where he felt that he couldn’t stay a party (ANC) that did not have direction” as he had previously indicated to this publication that he was still eager to work for the people of this country.
Taabe said, “My focus is to build strong branches of the party since the local government elections are around the corner and I must say that I have a good relationship with the fighters.”
“This issue of being a threat to others because of my skills is news to me. I don’t know anything and we must work as a team and build the party.”
The provincial chairperson of the EFF, Mr Collen Sedibe said, “Let me first indicate that those people or fighters who think like that are those who joined the party because they want positions.
“If that was not their intention, they must focus on working for the people, not focusing on getting positions.
“As a party, we are not going to deploy lazy people because we want to make a difference in our country.
“People who will or can be deployed are those who are hard workers, experienced and active in terms of building the party and working for the people.”
On his Facebook page, Sedibe lambasted ANC members who joined EFF and went back to the ruling party just because they were hoping to get high positions. Sedibe labelled EFF defectors as “bonogwaja labazubazuba emgwaceni bagcine bashayiswe timoto”.
