Umkhonto Wesive pleads for sponsorship
In a bid to entrench cultural roots and keep children off the streets, the Umkhonto wesive cultural group is pleading for sponsorship and recognition from the public.

KABOKWENI – The group, which aims to positively develop teenagers, started in 2009 with a few members, but due to commitment and hard work, they now have 59 members.
The group is under the leadership of Xolani Maseko who works tirelessly to ensure that teenagers are kept away from the streets and to make them interested in hobbies.
The group is divided into two sub groups, the juniors which comprises of 37 members and the seniors which has 22 members. They perform locally to generate money for basic needs; this includes performing at weddings, schools, parties and cultural ceremonies.
This group, that accommodates both boys and girls, is well known for its ability to entertain crowds leaving them begging for more. Xolani says he prides himself in his ability to change other people’s lives and to ensure that the future of our country is bright.
This group wishes to go to visit as many areas as possible to teach young ones and elders that culture need to be embraced by everyone.
Due to the lack of funds and sponsorship, they are unable to go abroad. For this reason, they are pleading with local businesses and the public to help them with funds so that they can make their dream a reality.
“The challenge we normally come across is the lack of finance for transportation during events and competitions, to market ourselves and to buy uniforms,” he concluded.
