Locals march over Mines operation

The locals complained of not being employed in a stone crushing mine operating in the area, hence workers from the area were not able to go to their places of work as they were turned back by the angry mob who demanded them to join in the protests.

MSHOLOZI – What started as a peaceful march at Msholozi this morning has been reportedly turned violent with shots allegedly fired randomly at protesters by the police.

This morning there was totally no movement in and out of Msholozi. Roads were barricaded with burning tryes.

The locals complained of not being employed in a stone crushing mine operating in the area, hence workers from the area were not able to go to their places of work as they were turned back by the angry mob who demanded them to join in the protests.

Only learners and teachers were given access to move out of the area on foot as a result, some of the learners missed their buses or either arrived late at schools this morning.

At around 11:00 Mpumalanga News learned from a reliable source that the community had marched to the mine’s site where they demanded the immediate closure of the mine and its owners to vacate the place.

“People were forcibly entering the gates and then police fired bullets to disperse them. “We are all over the bushes as I speak, trying to hide from the police,” he said.
