Educators trained on fire-fighting skills
The purpose of the workshop to equip and train educators about personal safety and are expected to implement the knowledge to their learners.

PIENAAR- More than 40 foundation phase educators around the area were lectured on fire fighting skills during an Early Childhood Development Fire Safety workshop organised by Mpumalanga Working on Fire on Tuesday.
The purpose of the workshop to equip and train educators about personal safety and are expected to implement the knowledge to their learners. The training was held at Sigcinekile Pre-School.
Representatives from working on fire and the department of environmental affairs addressed the educators on prevention and control of wildland fires,protection of life, property and environmental through the implementation of integrated fire management practices. Other courses included the impacts of fire ,fire prevention ,stop drop and roll , crawl low under smoke and fire escape plan techniques training.
The principal of Sigcinekile pre-school Ms Lucy Langa said, “We did not know how to identify risks in and around the schools and how to escape when fire engulf the building,” said Langa.
She added that as they are teaching at a foundation phase it is important for them to educate learners about dangers of fire because kids are in an experimenting stage.
“This information will not only help the learners at pre school but will benefit their parents also,” she said.
Mr Elliot Nyathi from Working on Fire said that the workshop was productive and educators were very excited with the information they received during the Fire safe workshop.
“They were looking forward to work with the programme on reducing unwanted veld fires and they promised to request WoF to come and monitor how are they implement the knowledge.
