MBOMBELA- The Democratic Alliance in the province questions the appointment of Lt Gen Mondli Zuma as the province’s police commissioner.
In a media release the party states ‘This flies in the face of assertions by Acting National Police Commissioner (NPC), Khomotso Phahlane, that he is working to restore the image of the South Africa Police Service (SAPS) and to rebuild trust in their ability to fight crime in our country,”.
The release further states that the party will write to Phahlane to ask him to reconsider the appointment of Lt -Gen Zuma.
The appointment of Lieutenant-General Mondli Zuma as the Provincial Police Commissioner in Mpumalanga flies in the face of assertions by Acting National Police Commissioner (NPC), Khomotso Phahlane, that he is working to restore the image of the South Africa Police Service (SAPS) and to rebuild trust in their ability to fight crime in our country.
“We will also request that the full CVs of all provincial police commissioners are made available to the public to allow the people of South Africa, who rely on the provincial police commissioners to successfully combat crime in their provinces, to view the credentials of the SAPS provincial heads. This would go a long way to instilling the South Africans’ confidence in the SASP’s ability to fight crime” they said.
This comes after the unceremonious calling off of the recent provincial commissioner Lt Gen (Adv) Mark Dumisa Magadlela.
