
MBOMBELA – Community Safety and Liaison MEC Mr Petrus Ngomane has conveyed his condolences to a family from Mahushu that lost five members during a car accident on Saturday.
Ngomane visited the Mona family yesterday to express his condolences. The Mona’s were met with tragedy while travelling from the province to Pretoria over the weekend.
• Head-on accident on N4 claims six lives
According to the department, the family was travelling in a bakkie which lost control and overturned on the N4 road.
Three children died on the scene and two other family members died in hospital. Five other occupants of the vehicle including the driver were taken to Steve Biko Hospital where they are recovering from serious injuries. A case of culpable homicide is being investigated.

Ngomane wished the family members a speedy recovery and called on motorists to be cautious and rest between trips. “Fatigue is one of the contributing factor to road crashes therefore it is important for motorists to always consider resting at every 200km or 2 hours in order to save the lives of innocent people,” advised Ngomane.
On a separate incident on Saturday, a sedan driver died on the D2296 Kamagugu road after a collision with two minibus taxis.
Another sedan driver died after the vehicle lost control and hit a tree on the Schoemanskloof road. The passenger of the vehicle survived with minor injuries.
