Pensioner remanded in custody for killing girlfriend

The man allegedly discovered that R500 was missing from the wallet and a fight broke out as a result.

An 84-year-old man appeared before the Mbibane Magistrate’s Court on Friday for the murder of his 45-year-old girlfriend. This follows an incident that took place at Vaalbank on Thursday at about 19.50.

Information at the police’s disposal revealed that the lady friend came to visit the suspect. When he went out to buy some cigarettes, leaving the woman alone in the house, he returned and discovered that his wallet was missing. He confronted the woman who finally took the wallet out and gave it to him.

It is alleged that he then took a knife and stabbed the woman on her upper body and lower body.

Paramedics were called and on their arrival the woman was certified dead at the scene. The suspect was remanded in custody and will appear again on Friday at the same court for a bail hearing.
