Police warns taverns owners

"The tavern owners and customers are exposed to crime while the police suffer increase in crime statistics,"

TONGA – Police have issued a stern warning to tavern owners who fail to close at the scheduled closing time and selling liquor to underage patrons.

This emerged after a meeting with the liquor dealers due to complaints received by the station from the community.
“The tavern owners and customers are exposed to crime while the police suffer increase in crime statistics,” said the station commander, Maj Gen Dorah Xaba.

During the meeting, the owners were advised to hire security guards to avoid being attacked by customers who refuse to leave when they have to close and to assist them regarding to parking issues.
