Barberton SAPS without a station commander

It is the prerogative of the provincial commissioner (Lt-Gen Mondli Zuma) and his management to move members to positions of vacant where they feels they will perform their duties well

BARBERTON – The local police station has been left without a full-time station commander following the transfer of Col Sun-bright Ndlovu to the SAPS provincial office in Mbombela.
Though it was publicly well-known that Ndlovu and ANC councilor for ward-45 in the Mbombela Local Municipality, Mr Mandla Mamba, was not seeing to eye-to-eye, the police had, however, denied that the reason of transferring Ndlovu from Barberton to Mbombela had anything to do with Mamba.
Brig Leonard Hlathi, provincial police spokesman said the transferring of Ndlovu was due to internal reasons.

“It is the prerogative of the provincial commissioner (Lt-Gen Mondli Zuma) and his management to move members to positions of vacant where they feels they will perform their duties well,” said Hlathi.
He said Ndlovu has since been transferred to the provincial offices where he has been mandated with bigger responsibilities.
“He (Ndlovu) has been promoted to a provincial commander rank for crime prevention in Mbombela.
The process to appoint a new fulltime station commander at Barberton police station is underway,” added Hlathi.
Currently, Lt-Col Smanga Ncongwane is in charge of the Barberton police station on an interim basis.
While still a station commander for the Barberton police station, Ndlovu had many allegedly battles with Mamba and his supporters.
During Mamba several brushes with the law, his (Mamba) supporters protested it allegedly accusing Ndlovu of being involved in a propaganda with the intention of tarnishing the image of their leader.
