Easter operation a success in the province

The operations were conducted from April 10 within different parts of the province arresting 1511 people for various crimes and numerous items seized.

Operation Paseka, a multi-disciplinary operation comprising various stakeholders within the Security Cluster scooped a success over the Easter weekend.

Out of the 1511 people arrested, 25 were nabbed for murder, 129 for assault with an intent to cause grievous bodily harm, 357 for drug related crimes, 284 for driving under the influence of alcohol, 277 for liquor related crimes and 165 undocumented people.

The teams further issued a total of 1 633 fines for violation of the Road Traffic Act, seizing 1 207 449.51 grams of dagga as well as 4 520 329 millilitres of liquor and 4 042.02 grams of drugs. They further confiscated 1 500 litres of diesel, 12 stolen vehicles and 11 firearms.

All suspects appeared in different Magistrate’s Courts yesterday.
