Nelsville’ FC Leopards tourney a roaring success
The tournament is expected to attract more teams next year.
The second edition of the FC Leopards Tournament, which was held at Nelsville Sports Ground over the Easter holidays, was concluded in style on Monday.
According to tournament co-ordinator, Glen Swarts, three age groups, comprising eight teams, participated in the annual held tournament.
“The tournament kicked off on Friday, April 14 where the participating teams displayed outstanding performances. As usual the competition was tough. Monday was the finals day where fans witnessed plenty of talent, skills and goals in all the three finals,” said Swarts.

· In the under-13, Siyadlala Football Academy were crowned champions after beating Mavesta 3-2 in the lottery penalty shoot-out. The game had ended deadlocked 5-all in regulation time. For being crowned champions Siyadlala walked away with R1 500 in cash, gold medals and a floating trophy while Mavesta were consoled with R1 000 and silver medals.

· Siyadlala Football Academy were also crowned champions in the under-15 category. This was after they beat Musa FC 4-3. For their effort, Siyadlala pocketed R2 500, gold medals and a floating trophy. The losers – Musa – didn’t leave empty handed as they received R1 500 in cash and silver medals.
· Barberton FC were crowned champions of the open version. This was after seeing off a team from Tshwane University of Technology in the Mbombela Campus 2-1. Barberton pocketed R3 000 in cash, gold medals and a floating trophy. TUT were consoled with R1 500 and silver medals.
* Swanky Mnisi was voted as the best referee of the tournament and pocketed R1 000 in cash.
